Het kan niet genoeg worden benadrukt hoe belangrijk het is om kennis te hebben over het fenomeen "autisme spectrum stoornis". Mensen met autisme en hun familie leven meestal in grote onzekerheid voor een diagnose wordt gesteld. Er hapert wat, maar men kan het niet gedefinieerd krijgen. De omgeving doet het probleem vaak af met "je maakt je onnodig zorgen, het komt wel allemaal goed" of "je ziet spoken, je moet het hardhandiger aanpakken, ..." Goed bedoeld misschien, maar totaal naast de kwestie. Wanneer uiteindelijk de diagnose wordt gesteld is men meestal helemaal van de kaart. Wat nu? Informatie zoeken, geven, sensibiliseren, spreek erover, deel je ervaringen, blijf niet alleen met je vragen!
